£218,000 ERIS claim delivered alongside Innovate UK grant funding

MedTech company (name withheld): Life sciences: medical devices

The challenge

An R&D intensive medical device company was part way through an Innovate UK funded programme and had been told by a generalist adviser that grant funded work could not also appear in an R&D tax claim. The company was loss making and heavily dependent on getting both sources of non-dilutive funding right without breaching the rules on subsidised expenditure.

What we did

  • Mapped every project cost against the grant award letter to separate grant funded activity from the company's own R&D expenditure.
  • Structured the claim under ERIS as an R&D intensive loss making company, applying the subsidised expenditure rules correctly so nothing was double counted.
  • Documented the clinical and engineering uncertainties with the technical team and filed the Claim Notification Form and Additional Information Form on time.

The result

£218,000 recovered through ERIS alongside the Innovate UK grant, with the two funding streams reconciled cleanly and no subsidy control conflict.
